You heard it here first – an all electric campervan!
We’re immensely excited to announce that Hillside Leisure will be unveiling an all Electric Campervan at October’s Motorhome and Caravan Show at the NEC. We believe this will be a major first in the industry and the start of the electric revolution in the camping World. We went to great lengths to ensure delivery of the brand new Nissan e-NV200 electric van and are secretly in the design stages for a bespoke Hillside conversion using our in-house team of highly skilled craftsmen. We’ll be sending photos of the completed build live from the show to our Twitter and Facebook accounts and we expect a lot of attention from the visitors who surely won’t be expecting to see an electric campervan!
The external pictures below are of the electric commercial van, but you should be able to envisage how versatile it’ll be as a daily driver with it’s 4.5m length and 2m width – parking will be a doddle. Once we add an elevating roof and convert it’s current 4.2m3 of cargo capacity into a luxurious habitation space it will be perfect for those spontaneous weekend trips to the seaside or days out in the Peak District.
If you haven’t heard of the Nissan e-NV200, you’ll be surprised by it’s futuristic features:
- Award winning zero-emission technology
- 40% lower servicing costs (no engine oil, belts, gearbox or clutch)
- Up to four times cheaper to fuel than diesel vehicles
- Vibration-free, emission-free, noise-free drivetrain
- Practical 106 mile range, 76mph maximum speed
- Multi-function display gives an economy read-out along with battery state of charge
- Pre-heating control which can be remotely operated via a smartphone
- Electric air conditioning system
You’re probably thinking about the practicalities of having an electric vehicle as a campervan and will be curious about charging points. If you haven’t experienced an electric car then you’ll be pleased to hear that there is a fast growing network of charge points and technology is at hand to help you locate your next juice-up! Take a look at Zap-Map and you’ll see over seven thousand places in the UK that you can stop and re-charge.
You can recharge overnight in 8 hours using a domestic 16amp socket or in just four hours if the 32amp charger is fitted and a suitable supply is used. A dedicated CHAdeMO quick charger can recharge the battery to 80% capacity in as little as 30 minutes – a perfect time to grab a snack on route to your campsite.
More than 1,100 CHAdeMO quick chargers available to the public have been installed across Europe, with 220 of those in the UK. We would also like to think that campsites will start to allow you to re-charge your vehicle when you plug in on your pitch (for an extra fee). Electricity is the future of travel and we’ll certainly be having a chat with campsite networks such as The Caravan Club about the use of 16amp EHU’s on their campsites for overnight charging.
We’re really excited and hope you are too. Once we unveil the build we’ll post more pictures and provide more details, maybe you’ll want to come and visit us at the NEC? – it’s history in the making
